In Loving Memory of Cleo Izzo After my mom moved out of the house and took her cat with her, I needed another special friend to fill that empty hole in my heart. I soon began looking in the newspaper, and I stumbled across an ad for free kittens. It was at an organization at the time called "Helping Paws". We took a drive out there in search of a new little furry friend. There were lots of kittens there. I couldn't figure out which one I wanted; they were so cute! The lady then mentioned that there was one adult cat out in the garage. I thought, garage? Why is there a cat living in the garage? Needless to say, she had it all set up out there with a heater, food and blankets and there were two full grown cats out there. That was when I first laid eyes on Cleo. She was a small black and white shorthair, I could see this "take me home" look in her eyes. I immediately chose her. Once we got her home she sniffed the house down, and that night she laid right next to me, purring away. She was finally home, and at peace. That was 18 years ago, and she was already a few years old. |
 |
We spent many a good time together and I thank God I have amassed such a huge collection of pictures and video of her over the years. She slept on my bed nearly every night, but over the past year I knew she was getting frail. The last night she was with me, she was curled up on my bed with me, sleeping soundly.I know it has only been a week since she has left me but every time I walk through the door I feel a presence that she is still here. Sometimes I swear I can still hear her meow. I have found solace in my mom's cat and my boyfriend's kitty, who I see every day, but as far as I am concerned no one will ever replace her. Rest in peace, baby. I will see you someday. Toni :) |

In Loving Memory of Casey Maiorana August 19, 1999 – June 25, 2007 Casey was a Lab-Shepherd mix and just 5 weeks old when we went to pick her up from her breeder. We walked through their fence and onto a patio where there were 10 or so puppies just scattered around playing with each other. As we began playing with the puppies, it became harder and harder to choose just one to take home. That was when we noticed this little brown fur ball just looking at us from her hiding spot underneath a wooden bench. Our daughter picked her up and that was when we noticed that she was the only one in her litter without a tail. She looked up at us with those big, brown eyes. It was settled. We took her in the car and wrapped her up in a king-sized blanket where she slept for the 20-minute car ride home. |
Casey brought so much joy and excitement into our lives. She never begged at the kitchen table. Instead, she would go lie down in her corner and wait until the first person finished eating before she would inch her way towards the table. She loved her morning walks with her Dad and would wait patiently at the top of the stairs until he finished getting ready for work. At night, Casey never stayed in one place to sleep. She found enough time to visit all of us while we were still sleeping. When she was excited, her ears would perk up and she would get a line of hair that stood up on her back. Casey was the sweetest dog anyone could ever ask for. She kept us company when we felt lonely and gave us kisses when we felt sad. She was always excited and happy to see us when we walked through the door. Casey loved going for rides in the car and walks through the park near our house. Casey passed away on June 25, 2007 of this year. We aren’t sure of exactly what got her so sick. It all happened so fast. All we know for sure is that she was in constant pain. It would have been cruel to keep her alive and suffering just because we were afraid of losing her. Casey, you were so much more to this family than you ever could have possibly imagined. You were and always will be a friend, a companion, and a treasured member of our family. On the day we brought you home, we thought our family chose you. It turns out, you chose us. You have given us a wonderful 8 years filled with so much happiness and love. We will cherish your memory and the times we shared forever and always. We love you, baby girl, and we always will. Thank you to all the wonderful doctors and staff members who treated Casey as if she were your own. We are truly grateful. Thank you for all that you’ve done, Sil, Renee, Vicki, and Mike Maiorana (Casey’s family) |
Tootzee was our
miniature poodle, who we loved like a child, for almost 15
years. She was funny, energetic and very independent.
She was always up for a new rawhide chewee in the evenings when we
sat down in front of the television, or for a walk
outside. Her later years were mostly low-key, but the earlier
years were filled with running after tennis balls,
playing "chase" and even dragging my then 11 year old son
on his roller blades. We took her for many rides in the car
(with a dog harness of course), which she loved just because
she was with us. Nothing made this dog happier than
when we walked back into the house after being gone for as little
as 10 minutes, or a few hours. It was all the same to
her. I have no doubt that the love we gave to her she gave
back to us much more so, and added a joyful dimension to our
lives. |

Tootzee's health issues were always challenging, but we never gave up. The good docs and vet techs at VHAH were most conscientious and professional about treatment -- and for that we will forever be grateful.
Thank you!

Memorial for Patch Sanders
When we picked Patch up from Save-A-Pet he was seven years old. His former family dropped him off that same weekend, and he sat quietly looking at us as we looked at him in his cage. Little did we know that we would spend the next nine years with one of the best dogs ever. Patch touched many lives and was a favorite at the groomer, vet, and nursing home; late in life he would visit Rosewood nursing home in Deerfield to visit with the residents there. Patch was there when we moved into our first house with the yard just for him. Patch was tough as nails when it came to pain and even had his leg repaired by Dr. Sneed at Vernon Hills Animal Hospital to keep him on his feet.
|
He never asked for anything except a pat on his fuzzy head or the occasional treat. Okay, he often asked for a treat! He had big brown eyes and an appetite that would rival any other dog. Patch could beat just about anything except cancer and he went with dignity and took our hearts with him. We love you Patch, forever.

Nickademus, aka Nikki, was
our beloved kitty for 18 1/2 years. He came to my mom and I at only
7 months old in 1988. This little scared black cat that was so
sweet and gentle and captured our hearts instantly - we couldn't
say no to bringing him home. He fit in perfectly with our other
kitties, Natasha and Sebastian, and our dog, Bentley. They were all
great chums and had lots of fun running around the house -grooming each other and
giving us so much love. We lost Natasha in 1996, Sebastian in 1997
and Bentley in 1999. Nikki was the sole survivor of our
menagerie. |
In 1996 I met my husband, Rich. Nikki and Rich became inseparable. Nikki loved to race Rich up the stairs to bed and protect me through the night when Rich worked late - I think he thought he was a lion. He watched the birds and the squirrels by our back door - often lying in any sunny spot he could find. When I was expecting our twins, I was on bed-rest for several months. Nikki was my keeper and constant friend. He actually would lie on my side or pillow every night until the babies were born in August 2005. Rich and I had waited a long time for our human babies - all along we had our furry baby, Nikki, who loved us and took care of us every day. On March 17, 2006 our Nikki went to sleep to join his playmates in Heaven. We miss him so very much but know his fight and pain are over and he is a young, limber kitty once again - watching the birds and squirrels. We are so grateful to all of the staff at Vernon Hills Animal Hospital who treated him like he was their own kitty and truly cared about him. Thank you for everything, Richard and Laura Rash (family of Nikki Rash) |
